The Performance Review Institute (PRI) of
Warrendale, Pennsylvania governs the Nadcap certification program. PRI
exists "to advance the interests of the mobility industries (air, land, sea &
space) through development of performance standards and administration of
quality assurance, accreditation, and certification programs for the benefit of
industry, government, and the general public."
Per PRI document NOP-002, for Nadcap
certification of a special process, a supplier must submit their quality
management system (QMS) registration certificate to PRI prior to the onsite
Nadcap audit.
Acceptable QMS registration certificates are
limited to AS 9003, AS9100B, AS9110, and ISO 17025 (for testing laboratories).
If a supplier's QMS is not registered to any
of these standards, PRI will perform an "AC7004 assessment audit" prior to the
onsite Nadcap audit. This AC7004 audit acknowledges the requirements of AS
9003, a quality system standard not well recognized.
Notes:
1) In our view, an ISO 9001
registered QMS may, or may not meet AS 9003 requirements. The requirements do
not "match up."
2) QMS registration to AS 9100B or
accreditation to ISO 17025 (for a laboratory) are clearly preferred approaches.
After QMS registration or accreditation is confirmed, a supplier must pass a
Nadcap audit for each type of special process for which the supplier chooses to
be certified.
